It’s been years since I’ve been carrying this feeling – down in the dumps (Sad or depressed), devastated and world turning upside down. This is what I called the unpleasant mental state of Annoyance.
According to Wikipedia, annoyance is characterized by such effects as irritation and distraction from one's conscious thinking. It can lead to emotions such as frustration and anger.
I was inspired by Ira’s speech on how to cope up with stress. This is the reason why I decided to share what I’ve experienced. This thing is different from the pressure at work. It is the reality that the biggest percentage of stress related feeling is caused by the people around us. This is one of the biggest stresses that happened to me that tested my patience
In general it can be cause by tattletale from neighbors or annoying office mates who used to give negative criticisms to others and positive phrases on theirs. And the worst part is after the good things you’ve done and being friendly you will hear how this person hated you puts you down. That sound is driving me up the wall! (Making me very annoyed)
With all those things happened, I started building a wall that nobody can enter and then part of me turned into bits and pieces, scattered everywhere, lost and can’t find my way back. Then, as time goes by I realized and ask myself… Is it worth it to be affected with this annoyance? The answer is a big NO!
After those emotions, I searched for the things that can help me heal the wound. Here are the steps on how I get over it
1. Say a little prayer – I’m not a God-fearing type of person but I see to myself to call and pray once in a while. When I find it hard to get to this annoyance, I didn’t ask why He gave this to me, instead I asked Him to help and guide me pass through all this trial. Believe it or not, the feeling becomes better.
2. Doing something you love or finding someone you can talk to – I become emotionally healthier again when I do my passion, the passion for traveling. When I travelled I gain new knowledge, new friends and the attention is diverted to others. Luckily, I have friends from the past who is always there to advise and to comfort me even through chats and phone conversations only. I am also thankful for the new found friends for the comfort words.
3. Forgive and accept – It’s hard to forgive when you know you are hurt but this is the most powerful aid to peace of mind. Remember that that we are imperfect people and this is an imperfect world. God forgives, why can’t I? Life is too short to waste in such trifles. Forgive and move on
4. Keep your chin up and Choose to be happy –Suffering is only an option, happiness is a choice.
In conclusion, the same annoying person is still there. And even though we are not a celebrity, we are still facing the criticism of the people around us. We are their stars and they are our newsmakers and gossipers. So when you fall, the four steps such as praying to Him, Doing something you love or finding someone to talk to, forgive, forget and accept and choose to be happy.
